The tines

Most explanations stop at "shin tips are straight, kazuho tips curl inward." True, but that describes the shape without explaining it.
The real difference is how each tine thins along its length. A kazuho tine stays fairly full, then narrows abruptly and hooks into a curl at the very end. A shin tine thins smoothly from base to tip and finishes straight. That matters because a tine fails where force collects. Bend a paperclip at the same point over and over and it snaps there. Spread the bend along its length and it lasts far longer.
The kazuho's curl is a single flex point doing most of the work. The shin's taper never lets force settle in one place.
The curl does something else too. It covers the end of every tine, which is the hardest part to shave well. Uncurled tips have nowhere to hide. Each one has to be finished cleanly because you can see all of it, and that is part of why the shape resists mass production.
The profile

Stand the two side by side and the difference stops being technical.
The kazuho flares out into a wide, low dome. It is a functional shape and it is not trying to be anything else. The shin rises into a narrow, tall egg, the tines curving out and back in a single continuous line.
The proportions come from the tea tradition the shape was made for, where the whisk was looked at as much as it was used. What survives in a shin is a sense that someone decided how it should look and then did the extra work to get there.
You leave a whisk out. It sits by the kettle every morning, in view. A shin is the version of this object that earns being seen.
The grip

The other thing you notice, and the one you keep noticing, is how much less whisk there is to hold.
Measured around the base, the kazuho comes to about 9.3 cm. The shin is 7.4 cm. Just under two centimetres of difference, which sounds like nothing written down and is immediately obvious in the hand.
The narrower handle sits further into the fingers rather than filling the palm. That changes where the movement comes from. A thick handle pushes you into gripping with the whole hand and driving from the forearm. A slimmer one lets the fingers and wrist do the work, which is what you want, because good whisking is quick and light rather than forceful.
The practical version: it is easier to keep the motion loose for the full ninety seconds, and easier to change direction and angle without resetting your grip. A whisk you have to hold tightly is one you will hurry to put down.

Whisks built for thin tea run many fine tines for maximum froth. Whisks built for thick tea run fewer, sturdier ones. The one shape both major schools agree on
Japan's tea lineages disagree about plenty, bamboo included. Urasenke uses white bamboo, Omotesenke uses smoked dark bamboo, Mushakojisenke uses black and purple. On the shin form for formal tea, though, the two largest schools land in the same place.
When traditions that argue about almost everything else settle on the same shape, it is usually because the shape is doing something.

Is a shin chasen good for matcha lattes?
It is arguably the best fit. The roughly 64 tine head is sturdy enough for fast daily whisking and fine enough at the tips to foam properly, and the narrow head sits comfortably in the hand when you are doing this every morning. Very high count whisks froth marginally more and fray faster.
Is a shin better than a normal kazuho whisk?
For daily, varied use it has real advantages. The gradual taper distributes stress so it holds its shape longer, and around 64 tines handles both thin and thick tea. If you only ever make high froth thin tea, a high count kazuho will froth marginally finer. "Better" depends on how you drink.
